Sports-related head injuries have been getting a lot of attention in the media lately, and parents in our community are understandably concerned about what this might mean for their children.

To address those concerns, The Lippman School is hosting a Community Forum to present the most up-to date information available on the topic. It will also give parents a chance to actually talk to an expert in the field; Dr. Joseph A. Congeni, Medical Director of the Sports Medicine Center at Akron Children’s Hospital.

Youth Sports Brain Injuries: More Questions than Answers, will be presented on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, from 7:00-8:30 PM, in the Shaw J.C.C. auditorium, 750 White Pond Dr., Akron, OH 44320.There will be a question and answer session following the presentation, and audience members are encouraged to participate.

Topics the doctor will explore include the importance of parents and coaches recognizing the warning signs of concussion, how physical therapy helps concussion patients heal more quickly, and the long-term effects of brain injuries.

Dr. Congeni is well-known both locally and nationally, and has won awards such as The Ohio Athletic Trainer’s Team Physician of the Year Award, the Ohio State Medical Association’s Outstanding Team Physician Award, and the OHSAA Respect the Game Award.

The doctor’s many media appearances include the NBC TV Today Show, a recent story on Akron-area NPR radio affiliate, WKSU,  and a weekly Sports Medicine segment on WAKR-AM Radio. He is also featured in a film documentary about brain concussions in High School Football, called “The Smartest Team”.

This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Reserve your seats today. Call 330-836-0419, or email info@thelippmanschool.org.
