The Rundown on the Indoor Pool

In the summer of 2013 a structural engineer determined that the 40 year old roof of the indoor pool building structure was at risk of catastrophic failure. We immediately decided to close the indoor pool, concerned about the safety of our members and staff.

While we knew we were making the right decision, it was not an easy one. 64% of our membership-base use the aquatics area on a regular basis. Babies get to experience water with their parents in Mommy & Daddy & Me classes, young children participate in swimming lessons and often transition to learn lifelong lessons as they compete on swim team. Our adults build strength and confidence exercising in the pool. Most importantly, our aquatics community is forming lifelong bonds with friends and family.

We are raising $1.75M to bring the pool back to our members with modest improvements. While financial support is appreciated and will make the most immediate impact, it’s not the only way to show your support to the Shaw JCC. Here are all the things you can do:

Stay connected - sign up to get your news and updates from the pool.

Spread the word - share the information with others at the dinner table, on facebook, or on twitter.

Stay well – find alternative ways to exercise and keep your body moving (check out our group-x schedule)

Save the date – the pool will re-open in the fall and we’re counting on you to celebrate with us at our opening event!

Make a gift to make an immediate impact.
